Francis Energy, a major regional provider centered around Oklahoma, announced via an email on Friday that pricing would change July 1 for chargers in the states of Kansas, Missouri, and New Mexico. They will be going to per kilowatt-hour pricing. Currently, all DC fast charging costs $1 + $0.39/minute nationwide.
In Kansas, pricing will be:
DCFC - $0.42/kWh
AC - $0.39/kWh
In Missouri:
DCFC - $0.49/kWh
AC - $0.39/kWh
In New Mexico:
DCFC - $0.59/kWh
While I am pleased they are going to the more fair kilowatt-hour pricing, I am concerned about the large price disparity.
I don't understand why New Mexico's pricing is 10 cents higher than Missouri's (an increase of 20%) and 17 cents higher than Kansas' (40% higher!). 59 cents per kilowatt-hour is super expensive especially compared to Electrify America at 48 or 36 cents/kWh (depending on membership).
Unfortunately, Francis Energy holds/will hold a monopoly on charging along non-Interstate highway corridors in New Mexico.
